NTI-tss Plus®

EMA

The NTI-tss Plus™ does the job of a bite guard but covers only the front teeth. The NTI-tss Plus is a small, clear, “taco shell” shaped appliance. Attached on the incisal edge of the shell is an anterior-posterior discluding element (DE) that provides for a point stop on the mesial-incisal edges of the two opposing central incisors.

The NTI-tss Plus is made from Clear 450® thermoplastic material. The high heat, high pressure injection process guarantees a perfect fit with proven durability. Clear 450 is clinically unbreakable, provides a perfect fit with no shrinkage and won’t absorb stains or odors. Clear 450 does not contain Bisphenol-A.

The NTI-tss therapeutic protocol was developed by James P. Boyd, DDS. The NTI-tss Plus is the only lab-produced, customizable alternative to the chairside NTI-tss. Originally developed to prevent migraine pain, the NTI-tss Plus is proven to be a superior alternative to full-coverage bite guards.

How it Works

By reducing muscle contraction intensity during parafunctional activity the NTI-tss Plus minimizes tooth wear, reduces joint strain and disc load, and decreases muscle tension.

Upper or Lower?

Although some doctors still prefer the maxillary NTI-tss Plus, more experienced users continue to find additional indications for a lower appliance. Factors that influence arch choice may include clinical crown length and tooth contour (retention), tooth rotations and malposition, uneven incisal edges, and narrow arch width. Your laboratory technical advisor can make recommendations after models are mounted and analyzed in the laboratory.

What does the lab need to fabricate the device?

  • Full arch models or VPS impressions (we recommend Alginot™ from Kerr or Position Penta™ from 3M)
  • Maximum Protrusive Measurement

What is the recommended insurance code?

All plans are different so coverage varies. In general the same insurance codes for splints, TMJ appliances, habit appliances all apply to the NTI-tss Plus. Some useful codes:

  • D 7880 Occlusal Orthotic Device, by report
  • D 9940 Occlusal Guard, by report
  • D 8210 Removable Habit Appliance
  • For Medical Submission: CPT 21110-52 Interdental Fixation Device/D 7880 Orthotic Appliance
